My photo from 2022

This is my old art studio in Altadena, California.
It was claimed by the Eaton Fire.

I say old art studio, because I moved out in 2023. I shudder to think of my artwork being lost to fire. I am sad for the tenants who lived upstairs who now face a competitive rental market on top of everything. I am sad for the landlord Darlene and her son Chris whose father/grandfather built this quirky complex in the 1930s along with the storybook house nextdoor where Chris lived.

I found my way to the Boston Street studio thanks to Shannon, director of the Secret Land residency that I enjoyed for the month of October 2021, also in Altadena. (Secret Land survives!!!) Shannon and her daughter Rose’s tattoo studio, Shangri-La Tattoo, was in the Boston Street complex. If you came to my reception at Secret Land, then you can imagine Shangri-La—it was a transportive den of colors, textures, incense, and walls covered with artwork. Now Shannon and Rose must find a new home and supplies for their business.

40% of all art sales in January, 2025 will be donated to Shannon and Rose’s GoFundMe

(40% is the cut a gallery typically takes.) To this end, I would especially love to sell work I made in residence at Secret Land and at the Boston Street art studio. You may recall my cigar box dioramas from Secret Land. You can see them here on my website. I will be posting work I made at Boston Street on Instagram @allisonstraussart , so please follow to stay abreast. You can contact me through Instagram, email, etc. with any inquiries. THANK YOU!
